N Stabilizers

Nitrogen exists in the soil in many forms and can change from one compound to another very quickly.  As a result of this nitrogen loss can be caused by various factors.  Nitrogen loss in the soil typically results from leaching, denitrification, volatilization, erosion or run off as well as crop removal.  Greater losses can occur when soils enter the spring season with recharged subsoil moisture, when more N is in the nitrate form, and when soils are warming.  Some benefits of Nitrogen Stabilizers are increased yields and decreased greenhouse gas emissions and decreased nitrogen leaching by 16%. The use of nitrogen stabilizers can minimize the risk of losing essential N from the soil.
There are a range of nitrogen stabilizers available on the market but, the three main stabilizers offered at Central Farm Service are Instinct, N-Serve and Agrotain.  It is critical to be aware that not all stabilizers work the same way.  Identify your key methods of potential loss and select the right product to protect your nitrogen investment.   Nitrogen Stabilizers are a decision growers trust to protect their nitrogen investment — optimizing their yield potential and minimizing environmental impact.

51% LESS GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS*
The exclusive Optinyte technology found in N-Serve and Instinct reduces denitrification, reducing the escape of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

16% LESS LEACHING N*
N-Serve and Instinct reduce the leaching of nitrates into groundwater by keeping the ammonium form of nitrogen available longer, ready for crop uptake.

6 TO 8 MORE WEEKS IN THE SOIL
By extending nitrogen availability in the soil for up to eight weeks, N-Serve and Instinct keep nitrogen available and ready when corn needs it most: during critical growth stages.

28% GREATER SOIL RETENTION
Healthy crops start with healthy soil. N-Serve and Instinct work below the soil’s surface to help retain nitrogen in the soil longer so it’s available when crops need it for maximum growth.

Join the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota on June 1 for Ag Education
Day. Ag is so relevant in our region, but many children only “see” it from a bus window. This FREE
Museum day gives a hands-on opportunity to explore, learn, and ask questions about the importance
of agriculture in our everyday life. Teaching children about agriculture at a young age can help
them start recognizing how it impacts the world around them and can help them learn other important
aspects about life.

Highlights as of 5/16:
Corn:
Planting and weather conditions are the name of the game currently. With planting progress looking very favorable and the weather forecast showing above normal temps and below normal precipitation for much of the corn belt all signs point to very good planting conditions. With that, we gave up yesterday’s gains on old crop and put in some new lows on December corn.
