CFS Supports Adopt-A-Pig Program

Jul 24, 2019

CFS provided and paid for the feed to raise the 28 pigs from 40 lbs. to market.  The pigs were housed at two farms - Chad Larson, St. James & Kurt Blomgren, Butterfield.   A Show Clinic was held at the Kurt Blomgren farm on July 9 to help educate the kids on how to get their pig ready for the show and how to present their pig to the judge at the fair as well as things they should know about raising their pig.

A lot of the parents had shown animals at their county fair when they were kids, and this gave their kids the same opportunity to enjoy the same experiences despite living and working in town.

There were 33 pigs shown at the fair this year as compared to 14 last year.  The other 5 pigs shown were from two families that bought and raised pigs on their own farms.

Each kid gets to sell one pig on the Fair Auction and will be able to retain a portion of the sale price and a portion of it goes back to the Program to help fund the program next year.

Corn:
Planting and weather conditions are the name of the game currently. With planting progress looking very favorable and the weather forecast showing above normal temps and below normal precipitation for much of the corn belt all signs point to very good planting conditions. With that, we gave up yesterday’s gains on old crop and put in some new lows on December corn.

May is Beef Month!

I am proud to be a part of the cattle industry. Heart, dedication, and hard work are the words that come to mind when I think of the cattle industry. I am proud of our cattle producers as they put a lot of time and effort into raising, caring for, and providing a healthy, nutritious protein source to sustain our society.
