Owatonna, Minn., November 11, 2019 — The CFS Foundation recently approved $31,500 in grant funds to be distributed to 21 FFA chapters within their service and trade area. In addition, the CFS funds are being matched by the Land O’Lakes Foundation, bringing the total contribution to $63,000. The purpose for the grant money is for each chapter to use the funds to focus on developing and applying leadership and classroom skills with activities, projects, or events that help improve our rural communities and/or service those who live there.

The donation will help with their Ag Day, which is a fun educational experience for more than 400 Owatonna elementary students. The day consists of 5 mini-workshops about machinery, safety, dairy products, large and small animals, and greenhouse plants. The funds help purchase consumable supplies and materials for presentations and distribution to the students.

CFS Board Member, Marvin Spindler was on-hand to present the Owatonna FFA chapter with a check for $1,500 and matching funds from Land O’Lakes Foundation of $1,500 for a total of $3,000.

Corn:
Planting and weather conditions are the name of the game currently. With planting progress looking very favorable and the weather forecast showing above normal temps and below normal precipitation for much of the corn belt all signs point to very good planting conditions. With that, we gave up yesterday’s gains on old crop and put in some new lows on December corn.
